This course will run 25th March, 1 April, 8 April, with a two week break for school holidays, then 29 April, 6 May, 13 May, 20 May, 27th May, with the 3rd June as a backup date in case of tutor illness.

All materials and equipment provided, including a range of artist-grade pigments

This is a practical paint-making course that covers the technical aspects of making a watercolour paint, the practical and cultural considerations of pigments and testing your paint’s characteristics. Be prepared to mull your own paint by hand!

This course focuses on historic mineral and plant pigments in a range of colours such as yellow ochre, red oxide and logwood violet.

At the end of the course you’ll:

- Have eight hand-mulled watercolour paints

- Be able to create your own watercolour binder

- Know how to make your own watercolour paints from dry pigments

If you can’t make a class due to illness or other commitments, you’ll be provided with the watercolour pan and handout for that week. 

In case of tutor absence, the course will run for an extra week until the 3rd June, in lieu of the missed class.
